A jaw tumor took the life of Jenie Yoo, a 28-year-old from Thailand on Thursday, with thousands of Chinese netizens expressing condolences on social media.

Yoo thought she was suffering from a small tooth problem, but was diagnosed with bone cancer in her jaw last year.

Yoo's tumor warped her face, painfully twisting her nose and eyes. As the tumor grew, Yoo posted photos on social media, asking for help finding a job to reduce the financial burden on her family.

Social media users, initially unconvinced of the young woman’s disease, mocked and accused her of using Photoshop to cheat the public.

To address the cyberbullying, Yoo shot a video explaining her illness and how it had wreaked havoc on her life. This time, she was understood by online users, and well-wishers lent her a hand to help with the medical costs.

Tragically, Yoo passed away this week. Her funeral was held on Saturday.

The young girl’s story has gone viral on Chinese social media, garnering over 8,000 comments. Chinese netizens mourned her death on microblog Weibo and condemned cyber violence, advocating for people to realize the severity of the situation.
